Beijing formerly known as Peking, is located in norteastern China and is the capital of the PRC. Beijing happens to be the second largest city in PRC after Shanghai.

Beijing is also one of the most important cities in the world with a lot of culture and history and now as the capital of one of the strongest nations in the world. The city is known for its temples, huge stone walls, palaces and gates.

The city went under enormous transformation for the 2008 Plympic Games and many sports arenas, concert halls and other significant buildings of many kinds have been built in the past few years.

The city is built around the Forbidden City (gu gong in Chinese) and the roads surrounding the Gu gong are known are known as rings.

Significant educational institutions in Beijing include Tshinghua university and Beijing University also known as Beida.

The city has a very large population of expats and there are many different restaurants, bars, shopping places, book clubs built especially for serving the needs of expats. Life in Beijing is fairly easy for an expat since there are many options in the city specifically built to serve their needs.
